Insanely overrated and disappointing. I went in thinking I would enjoy it as I like Purple Rain and When Doves Cry and by what other people say about this album you would assume every track on it would be on the same level but that unfortunately just isn't true at all.
I found the first half of the album to be either bad or boring and forgettable. There is nothing there that I am particularly fond of and I do not care that it was revolutionary for the time because that just means it was average with no competition, you don't get participation medals in music where stuff can and will hold up to the test of time. I do not like the screaming on The Beautiful Ones it is straight up dreadful and ruined the track. I do not like the vocals on Darling Nikki either, or anything about that track actually
The second half of the album is where it's at redeeming itself with When Doves Cry and Purple Rain which are both great songs and the only reason why I would ever consider listening to this album again. I Would Die 4 U is good and I like the transition to the Baby I'm a Star but that song was just average.
