It's essentially a Roger Waters solo album but with the other members backing, this is the main reason why people will either love or hate it. As someone who is more of a Watersheep than a Gilmie I do quite like this album, it's a very emotional anti war concept album and I love it for that. Nobody is slapping this on speakers with people around but that's the same for The Wall as it just isn't appropriate or uplifting. The album is straight up an extension of The Wall but more obvious with it's messaging, if you didn't enjoy The Wall as an album there is no chance that you will enjoy any of The Final Cut.
When the Tigers Broke Free is a good addition but I'm not a fan of how it leads into The Hero's Return. The sax on The Gunner's Dream is insane, I like the sax in Money but the sax here has more emotional depth. The final three tracks are (other than the track ordering) great. The Final Cut is very emotional. Not Now John feels like it's both individually good but also a forced single. I don't think the placement of Not Now John is very appropriate, thematically it makes sense but for listening, no. Two Suns in the Sunset is beautiful and a really good end to the album.
