From what is basically a Roger Waters solo album to a David Gilmour solo album, for a normal listen it is far more palatable as there is no obvious political tone bar The Dogs of War. Even then that only extends to Gilmour's far safer and more toned down political views and you can really feel that in how the tracks pails in comparison to anything on Animals as there isn't as much bite in this dog. The sound heavily carries the track so it's still a banger.
On the Turning Away is the type of song I lyrically do not care for and why I prefer Roger over David, it would be a dislike if it wasn't for that guitar solo at the end gripping me in. Yet Another Movie is the kind of vibe that I really prefer, Terminal Frost too what an absolute banger. A New Machine 1 and 2 do add to the album and I do think it needed something like that to complete it as an album rather than a collection of songs, definitely not something you could ever play separately though.
I may like both artistic directions Pink Floyd went in but although Gilmour's is more palatable you have to admit that it trades that for having less sauce. It's separate but equal to The Final Cut.
I think for me the album is important personally just for the track One Slip, it isn't my favourite track or a 10/10 song but the lyric "Was it love? Or was it the idea of being in love?" has stuck with me ever since I first heard the song. Sorrow is another track that will stick with me, it's the song that I associate with a friends passing as the lyrics were something I wrote down in a Minecraft book for a virtual funeral. I also have a fond memory of listening to this in the IKEA in Southampton so overall the album has a strong emotional connection to me but I don't think I like it because of the connection but rather those connections are because the album itself is good.
