I bought this album on a week where I had a couple of interviews and obsessively listened to it, obviously playing MANiCURE before a job interview wasn't a working good luck ritual because I am still unemployed. I am thankful to myself that I bought this album though, Non-Stop Pop in GTA V having Applause was the only reason I bought it and it's crazy how much that virtual radio station has shaped my taste in music.
Do What U Want featuring R. Kelly is possibly one of the most horribly aged songs ever like I don't think I can think of something worse if I spent some time going through songs that could age this bad. It's such a good song though despite it being the most foul thing in hindsight.
Lyrically Donatella just sounds dumb and the lines feel very forced with how they awkwardly find some word that flows which maybe is what it's going for?? but I think it takes away from the song because the rest of it is perfectly fine.
Sexxx Dreams, Swine and Mary Jane Holland are tracks that I had to listen to a few times before liking. Dope and Gypsy are tracks that no amount of re listening will make me like. I do not like Jewels n' Drugs at all, it's not that I dislike rap it just sounds cheesy but at the bare minimum it's at least between some good tracks and has some good parts in it (although It should have ended a minute earlier). But with Dope and Gypsy they are just not good. Dope is just whiney and has nothing of substance to make me like. Before reading into it I was shocked that Gypsy was even a song as I previously only knew that word as something that is considered an ethnic slur for Roma people but apparently in other places it's just another world for traveller.
Despite complaining about a bunch of tracks I do really like this album, I'm not listening to it on release so I can't go on about how it is "ahead of it's time" or whatever but I do like it and that's all that matters.
